Assistive Technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment, software, product or system that is used to maintain or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
AT aims to enhance an individual’s independence and has a large role to play in enabling pupils with a disability to take full advantage of their educational potential.
Windows, Apple and Microsoft products now include accessibility options/assistive technology, and this has extended to portable devices such as tablets and smartphones opening up a greater variety of technology to students with disabilities.
