Assistive Technology Support

What is assistive technology?

  • Assistive Technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment, software, product or system that is used to maintain or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.

  • AT aims to enhance an individual’s independence and has a large role to play in enabling pupils with a disability to take full advantage of their educational potential.

  • Windows and Apple products now include accessibility options/assistive technology, and this has extended to portable devices such as tablets and smartphones opening up a greater variety of technology to students with disabilities.

How can we support pupils to achieve their potential?

The Richard Cloudesley Outreach Service programme aims to enhance access to learning for pupils with disabilities by promoting awareness of Assistive Technology (AT) and providing training in specialised software and hardware. We are able to conduct assessments for individual pupils, and to make recommendations where additional equipment might provide greater independence and remove barriers to learning. We are unable to provide any equipment.
